Fully integrated draw-wire encoders for hydraulic cylinders, telescopic cylinders and piston accumulators
Draw-wire encoders in the SGH series are based on more than 30 years of development history and the experience gained from a large number of demanding applications in a wide range of industries. The smart design and functional principle of the measuring devices enables measuring ranges from zero to five meters, despite their very compact dimensions. The sensors are used in a wide range of mobile machines, such as construction machinery, agricultural machinery, municipal vehicles and commercial vehicles. Manufacturers of hydraulic cylinders and OEMs successfully use the robust technology and value the associated competitive advantages of SIKO draw-wire encoders.
SIKO introduced a world first to the position sensor market back in 2015 with "string pots" in hydraulic cylinders. The first model in the SGH series, the SGH10, with a measuring length of up to 1000 mm, was presented. The novelty: it was the first fully integrated draw-wire encoder for measuring the position of hydraulic cylinders, which at the same time boasted a number of advantages over conventional solutions. The SGH10 was immediately recognized by the market as a particularly innovative product and received the i-Novo Award in the "TECH" category.
Draw-wire encoders make your hydraulic cylinders smart
SGH technology transforms hydraulic cylinders, telescopic cylinders and piston accumulators into "smart hydraulic systems" in both industrial and mobile machinery. The electronics with teach-in functionality give you full flexibility in terms of measuring range and reduce the need to stock different variants for different measuring lengths. Thanks to this function, the position sensor can be taught to any measuring length between 0 mm and its maximum measuring length.
Simple and cost-effective integration – goodbye piston drilling!
The innovative cable-based design and functional concept as well as complete cylinder integration of mechanics and electronics is easy to implement and provides protection against any external environmental influences. A major advantage of the SIKO SGH draw-wire encoders for the production process of hydraulic cylinders or telescopic cylinders is the elimination of the need to bore the cylinder piston, because this is very time-consuming and cost-intensive and could also weaken the piston.
Draw-wire encoders are robust, even under adverse conditions
The complete measuring system is installed in the cylinder and consequently optimally protected from external environmental conditions. A clear advantage: unlike measuring systems mounted externally on the cylinder, the sensor system cannot be damaged or negatively affected or even destroyed by environmental influences. Another advantage of SGH technology is its resistance to shock and vibration. Commercial vehicles in particular, such as construction machinery or agricultural machinery, can be subjected to very strong impacts and vibrations, for example, when an excavator shovel hits the ground hard when being set down. The result would be a strong shock wave that would affect the installed sensor as well as the hydraulic cylinder and piston. Draw-wire encoders, which are operated on the basis of a flexible cable, absorb this effect with ease!
Service life and extensive long-term tests
The number of revolutions, force ratios or spring characteristics are determined and defined by SIKO on a product-specific basis. SGH draw-wire displacement transducers set standards, particularly in terms of durability and robustness, since they are designed and tested electronically (non-contact, magnetic measuring principle) and mechanically over the service life of a cylinder and meet the quality requirements of leading cylinder manufacturers and OEMs. Long-term tests on new developments at SIKO and in cooperation with leading cylinder manufacturers ensure quality and durability.
